ABOUT
"Although we are born carrying the burdens of the past, we also inherit an obligation to heal our ancestral heart by giving a voice to what is unspoken, to witness that which is remote or forgotten, and to choose to reconcile the illusion of separateness. The act of courageous love is what aligns us with the Great Mystery, unifying past and present, shadow and light, and seen and unseen."
- Dr. Ruby Gibson
I'M DR. RUBY
A mixed blood woman of Native and Mediterranean descent. I live on the Front Range of Colorado, and previously lived in both the Flathead Reservation in MT, and in Rapid City, SD near Pine Ridge Agency.
For 35+ years, I have been dedicated to the craft and science of Historical Trauma reconciliation, cultural healing, and wellness among Native and Indigenous Peoples all around Turtle Island, and abroad in Europe and Australia.
MY STORY
Transgenerational Healing and Historical Trauma Recovery have long been the focus of somatic therapist Dr. Ruby Gibson. In 1995, she developed Somatic Archaeology©
to help those in recovery from chronic pain, repetitive familial patterns, historical amnesia, cultural trauma, grief, addictions and despair.
As a woman of mixed descent (Mediterranean/Lakota) who embraces many traditions, Ruby brings 35 years of experience as an international educator, certified
somatic therapist, and author of My Body, My Earth, The Practice of Somatic Archaeology©. A seasoned humanitarian and gifted writer, she began her spiritual
journey at the age of 13 and has spent her life in service to the healing of Mother Earth and the betterment of her community.
In Summer 2015, her non-profit group, Freedom Lodge, received a grant to open the Black Hills Historical Trauma Research & Recovery Center in Rapid City, SD. Dr Ruby believes that we can translate historical trauma into present day psychological/spiritual advantage. Somatic Archaeology© was researched and evaluated, and Dr Ruby published her first doctoral article in December 2023 at the University of Toronto Press.
Dr. Gibson empowers everyone to provide leadership to their families, colleagues, clients and communities when it comes to creating generational harmony. The objective is two-fold: to lighten the load for future generations, and to integrate unresolved burdens for conscious remembering and earth-centered resourcing. Or in other words, to find the gift within the wound. These are activities of profound
responsibility requiring us to proceed with consciousness and ethical reflection.
Dr Ruby is excited for her next campaign, the Khonmadi Project, to be released in March 2026. The Khonmadi Project is based on a Dr Ruby’s dream for the Heartbeat of
Mother Earth, and is documented in her book - to be released soon. The mother of 4 children and 5 grandchildren, Dr Gibson has hope for the future.

"You are brilliant! I'm at the end of your book, and it seem that you were living in my body and my heart all my life.
Your descriptions of the somatic process fits me to the tee. And the healing process through a spiritual journey is just what I've been doing and going through, in the last 5 years, not exactly understanding what is happening with me, but loving every minute of it.
I learn visually, and reading it in your book, like you wrote it for me, is an amazing insight.
Thank you much, you are a gift to the world."

"No words capture the expansive gratitude I feel for Ruby Gibson, Freedom lodge and everyone in the Somatic Archaeology class I've been part of over the last year.
Digging into the stories passed down through
generations of colonized bodies and minds has been a life changing journey."
